With the Fourth of July upon us, what is your recommendation for managing my anxious dog while the fireworks are going off?

  Avian
1. I have a 2 year old African Gray Parrot.  I primarily feed it seed but a friend recommended that I try a homemade diet.  What do you recommend?

2. My 18 year old male cockatoo recently starter feather picking and now has several bald areas.  Is this a behavioral problem and what can I do about it?

  Feline (and Canine)
1. My cat loves to eat grass.  Is there any dietary deficiency that would cause this?  Is it good for her?  She usually vomits shortly afterwards.
2. My cat is urinating all over the house.  What should I do?
3. My cat is shedding like crazy and I have been seeing a lot more fur-balls.  Is there anything I can do to help my cat?
4. I recently moved to the area and have a dog and a cat.  I have heard a lot of people talking about foxtails.  What are they, and do I need to be concerned?
5. My cat has fleas and I have tried a bunch of products to try to get rid of the problem.  Any suggestions?
6. My cat keeps going back and forth to the litter box.  Is he constipated?  What should I do?
7. I have heard that vaccines can have serious side effects and I am not sure if I should have my kitten vaccinated?  What are the pros and the cons?
8. My cat is 17 years old.  Just recently she seems to be drinking a lot more water. She seems healthy otherwise with no other changes.  Should this be something to be concerned about?
9. I have 2 kittens, they are about 6 months old. My husband gives them human food (behind my back). Is it ok to do that?
10. I have heard that my dog and cat can give worms to my child.  Is this true?  If so, should I be worried and what can I do to avoid this?

11. My vet suggested I have my cat’s teeth cleaned.  They don’t look too dirty to me.  Is this really necessary?  Can I do anything about this on my own?

12. My cat has always been one to hide a lot, but I noticed that this has become worse over the last few months.  Recently I noticed that he flinches when I pet or touch his head and he is really picky with his food and takes a long time to chew.  Is there a better food option?  Do I need to bring him in for an exam?

13. My dog often gets into the garbage.  Are there any easy ways to deter him?  Is this dangerous to his health?

14. I just got a new miniature schnauzer puppy that is 10 weeks old.  The breeder said that he is at risk for infectious diseases until his next vaccines in July.  It was recommended that I not take him to public places until then.  Is this correct?  Is there anything else I need to do before July?

My cat likes to nibble on plants.  Is this OK?

  Small Mammal
1. I have two hamsters that seem to be in good health and are about six and a half months old. Should I take them to the vet for check-ups and, if so, how frequently? They tend to fight fairly often and though I examine them to make sure I don’t see any injuries, does this change how often I need to bring them to a vet?
2. My rabbit is acting aggressive towards her cage-mate and I’ve noticed that her urine is very cloudy and occasionally has an orange to reddish color to it.  Is this anything I need to be worried about?
3. I have rabbits and guinea pigs.  What is the best bedding to use in their cages?
Can mites be transmitted through the bedding?

4. Does the bedding that I use in my pet’s cage really matter?  I have a guinea pig and a bearded dragon.

I have a three year old female house rabbit.  I am feeding it alfalfa hay and KT Fiesta pellet mix.  Are there other things I need to consider in the care of my rabbit?

2. I am considering buying a tortoise.  Are there any issues particular to tortoises that I should be aware of?  What type of tortoise makes the best pet for a first-time owner?
3. Do all reptiles need special lighting?  What light source is necessary for my pet bearded dragon?

4. Does the bedding that I use in my pet’s cage really matter?  I have a guinea pig and a bearded dragon.

5. I have two baby red eared slider turtles.  I have them in a 10 gallon tank, but realize that they need more space.  What is the ideal tank size?

I just got a baby Veiled Chameleon.  What can I do to keep him healthy?
